In early 2011 Mary Bartlett will be undertaking a demanding 500 kilometre 23 day sponsored trek starting at Besisahar and finishing at Katmandu in the Himalayas, Nepal, in aid of one of the regions longest established orphanages on the Ganges Plain, Northern India.
The Orphanage first began in the early 1900’s and during World War 1 provided children with a safe haven. It continues to this day to provide a home for more than 70 children and their carers’. Many of the children were abandoned, even left in rubbish tips; some are also disabled. The Orphanage is greatly reliant on public support and this sponsored trek is aimed at raising and securing a full years’ budget of some £27,000, to enable it to maintain its outreach.
FUND RAISING INFORMATION - For a number of years we have attempted to support the orphanage in a small way. The aim of the ‘Challenge Mary sponsored trek’ is to raise as much of the annual running budget of £27,000 as possible, for the orphanage.
